At the discussion on “Border Instability and Security,” political scientist Hrant Mikaelyan said that the Sochi statement was the least acceptable document for Azerbaijan because they set a high goal that the new borders of Azerbaijan, including occupied Artsakh, should be recognized and a corridor should be given.
“There is no talk of a corridor yet, but some process of border recognition is already underway. What is our agenda regarding demarcation and delimitation in general? There are issues of protecting our interests in many places, such as roads, monuments, etc., all of which should be discussed and put on the negotiating table.”
Political scientist Tigran Grigoryan answered that we were forced to make the November 9 statement, but is any force in Armenia today able to refuse that statement and the obligation it has assumed?

The political scientist also disagreed with Ghazaryan that the issue of the corridor was not discussed in the history of the settlement of the Karabakh issue. “The idea of the corridor was negotiated by the Armenian authorities in Key West, it is a well-known fact. By the way, in the Key West document, according to the information I have, not only the so-called “continental” Azerbaijan was talking about the corridor connecting Nakhichevan, but also Shushi, connected with the rest of Azerbaijan. This idea was not born in 2020.”
He said that he understands that Armenians cannot like this situation, but none of the existing political forces thinks that they can offer an alternative to the November 9 or January 11 statements.
