During the discussion of the draft statement On Demarcation and Boundary Issues authored by the Armenia faction at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, the chair of the committee, Eduard Aghajanyan, asked the head of the Armenia faction, Seyran Ohanyan, “Was it impossible to have a more protected, more capable, well-equipped, and better trained armed forces by May 2018 that could meet the challenges that existed?”
Seyran Ohanyan answered, “Of course, it was possible, the desires have always been more than the opportunities of Armenia.” Ohanyan also pointed out the mistakes of the army during Pashinyan’s time, which reduced the level of army readiness. “After 2018, I have not seen any major military exercises conducted by the leadership of the armed forces. I saw the shortcomings of the last exercise. I called and warned them.
Most importantly, look at the appearance of the army. Have you ever seen a government official, starting with the commander-in-chief, wear a soldier’s uniform in our armed forces and go to war or perform his duties, like the enemy’s commander-in-chief? I have not. Some fishermen’s uniforms have been introduced, thus the level of discipline… I do not want to use other words…,” Ohanyan said, avoiding being more rude. He assured that there is no reform plan in the army.
