Seyran Ohanyan, the leader of the Armenia parliamentary faction and former Minister of Defense, who was present at the meeting with the citizens and supporters of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun and its alliances in the local elections initiated by the ARF Supreme Body of Armenia, was asked about how despite the announcement at the rally organized by the Armenia alliance in November that a new street struggle is being organized, no practical steps have been taken yet.
Ohanyan responded, “During the last rally, we didn’t announce that a new street struggle is beginning, but the formation of a resistance is starting, which must include joint activities in the National Assembly, in society, and with all the supporters who voted for us and who express dissatisfaction with this government. Resistance so that Armenia and Artsakh do not fall, resistance under our slogan, ‘Neither the Turkification of Armenia, nor the eviction of Armenians from Artsakh.’ Both the alliance and the political forces within the alliance will use all the tools to implement it and to generate the idea that we can not succeed with these authorities. We need new, stronger, fresher forces that can express our views in the international community, that can quickly unite our people and ensure our security. That they can, in fact, form very important international guarantees for our security system, carry out activities with a wide range of external involvement, and use smart negotiation potential. And also national guarantees, which are expressed by the consolidation of the people, the restoration of the security system, especially the rapid pace of the army, and the settlement of our border situation.”
The general also agreed that they are delaying some things, and they’ve been late with others. “Not only the power of the opposition, but also the power of individuals should be used to form that resistance. Every knowledgeable, conscious citizen has to do something here, who should say no to all the negative phenomena that lead Armenia to the decline of its sovereignty and a very difficult situation in Artsakh. We need to generate ideology and practicality here, and combining those will make it possible to form that force.”
