At a press conference at the Hayeli Press Club on December 24, Eduard Sharmazanov, a member of the Republican Supreme Body and former NA Deputy Speaker, described the current government’s plans to normalize relations with Turkey as a “big bluff.” He said that in the name of unblocking, the current government of Armenia is implementing the centuries-old dream of Pan-Turkism, which was dreamed of by Talaat, Enver, Kemal Ataturk, Ozal, Demirel, and Erdogan. He said that in political science literature, the Turks call Syunik a “cursed wedge” for them and the capitulation regime in Armenia turns it into a “paradise road” for Turkey to the Turkish world. He drew attention to the fact that no representative of the Armenian government speaks of Turkish denial, international recognition of the genocide, even the occupation of Shushi and Hadrut. They speak only of trade and their stomachs, and Yerablur, a symbol of Armenian victory, has become a symbol of defeat and mourning. According to him, today is a turning point for our state and statehood. Armenia is moving towards Turkification, and most of society is asleep or apathetic, which resulted in the June 20 elections saying “yes” to the authorities representing the symbol of defeat.
According to Eduard Sharmazanov, the Artsakh issue could be negotiated endlessly, maintaining the previous situation, just as the Cyprus issue has been going on since 1974, the Arab-Israeli issue has been going on since 1948, and none of their governments have given up its national and state interests. Meanwhile, today Turkey continues its work from 1915, eliminating the Armenian factor politically, economically, or culturally. Eduard Sharmazanov also claimed that Nikol Pashinyan is lying when he states that in 2018, there was no provision for the right to self-determination in the negotiation package on the Artsakh issue, which the co-chairs refused. He urged Pashinyan to show a document confirming his statement at today’s online press conference. He also added that after Nikol Pashinyan came to power in 2018, the wording in the negotiation documents replaced the provision of the “right to self-determination” of the people of Artsakh. Eduard Sharmazanov describes any relations with Turkey in the current situation as “relations between a rapist and a raped person.”
Eduard Sharmazanov also touched upon the issue of the representatives of Armenia and Turkey in the Armenian-Turkish negotiations. “If Nikol Pashinyan is the prime minister, whoever wants to can participate. The person conducting these negotiations must implement the policy and instructions of the so-called Nikol Pashinyan. People brought Jirayr Liparityan to the parliament and said, ‘This is the father of our political diplomacy.’ According to the speaker, the wording on the Armenian Genocide in the document underlying the Armenian-Turkish talks will be in the form of Erdogan’s resolutions. “It is clear what the document should be: such vague wording on the establishment of diplomatic relations, similar to the wording that Erdogan gives- both Armenians and Turks were massacred, it is our shared pain. They will say such a mutual thing. They will say, ‘You see? Erdogan said it is our common pain. A middle-class Turkish official can also come to Tsitsernakaberd and lay flowers, and they will go and lay a flower on Kemal Ataturk’s grave, it will become a ‘brotherhood.’” He also reminded that Armenia was a leading country in the international condemnation of the Genocide during the Republicans’ administration nd Germany, which was an ally of Turkey in the First World War, recognized the Genocide. With such a policy, according to the speaker, the current government of Armenia is destroying the whole struggle of the Armenian Cause, causing a rift between the Diaspora and Armenia, and negotiating on its knees, fulfilling the demands of the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem.
