Seven years have passed since the murder of the Avetisyans from Gyumri, but the residents of this city still did not know who actually slaughtered this family of 7 without sparing even the two children, what the motive was, or who ordered it. The criminal case investigated at the Russian military base did not reveal anything; on the contrary, it raised new questions and deepened the suspicions of the people of Gyumri.

The head of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor office and the representative of the Avetisyans’ legal successor, Artur Sakunts, told Aravot that it was an unsolved murder for him as both the motive and the person who committed the real crime were unknown. There was no objective or comprehensive investigation to find out all this. According to him, if the motive of the murder is not known, the crime cannot be revealed.

Artur Sakunts also said that as a representative of the Avetisyans’ daughter’s legal successor, they had applied to the European Court on the grounds of conducting an ineffective investigation into the violation of the right to life. The application has been sent, but there is no news yet, and they are waiting for the decision of the European Court. There is no news from Valery Permyakov, a soldier from the Russian military base accused of killing the Avetisyans.

He was transferred to the Russian Federation to serve his sentence, but it is unknown where he is serving his sentence or if he is even serving it. “We applied once, they did not say anything, and it is not known whether he is serving a sentence or not or whether he is alive or not. We do not know anything. He was transferred to Russia- we only know that much,” said Artur Sakunts.
