On the Goris-Kapan road, we gave Azerbaijan the opportunity to carry out economic activities. They have a customs point and gas station, and the supermarket will operate. The chair of the State Revenue Committee, Rustam Badasyan, responded to reporters’ questions in the Armenian parliament on Wednesday about how we are now going to establish relations and economic ties with Turkey, and what will Armenia gain when there is an inflow of Turkish capital, “In my personal opinion, if we look at it as a risk, what do we suggest – to remain closed, live within closed borders, and never try to bring economic activity? Naturally, the representation of countries with large economies in countries with small economies is noticeable all over the world. Shall we live in fear?”
Badasyan said that 2 Armenian customs points were set up on the Goris-Kapan road. “As it is possible for some trucks from Iran to pass there, but most of the flow is already going in a new direction, for example, they are carrying out certain functions in terms of registering the Meghri customs point and passing trucks in that direction.”
In response to the question about the function of those customs points, in that case, Badasyan answered that if there is a theoretical possibility that cars can pass through them, they carry out customs control.
Badasyan said that Iranian trucks pass through the newly-built alternative route in Tatev. “I have personally traveled across that route three times, and I am convinced that the largest trucks pass through it.”

In response to the question about how economically profitable it is for Iranian drivers to cross our road and not the road handed over to the enemy, Badasyan answered, “We lost 0 cars because all the cars entered the Armenian border through the Meghri checkpoint. When it comes to transit transportation, they cross in Armenia. In other words, we do not have any shortage of payment.”
Badasyan noted that when another alternative road is built, “there will be no cars moving in that direction at all.”
