On January 20, Andranik Piloyan, Minister of Emergency Situations received the delegation led by Brigadier General of U.S. Air Force Edward L. Vaughan, Deputy Director of U.S. European Command for Partnering, Security Cooperation, and Space Capabilities, Lynne Tracy, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Singleton, Head of the Office of Defense Cooperation of the US Embassy in Armenia, Victor Romanenkov, US Navy Lieutenant Commander, Edidiong Glodowski, Chief Sergeant of US Air Force were involved in the delegation. Armen Pambukhchyan, First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of RA, and Armen Gasparyan, Director of Rescue Service MES RA also took part in the meeting.
Greeting the guests, A. Piloyan expressed his gratitude for the initiative of the meeting and emphasized that Armenian-American cooperation in the field of emergency situations dates back to 2003. During the previous years mutual cognitive visits, many educational trainings, conferences, seminars, command and staff exercises have been implemented.
Head of the department, among other programs, particularly reflected on the project of renovating and constructing the buildings of two fire-rescue squads (Gyumri 2, Akhuryan) in Shirak Province in cooperation with the Military Cooperation Office of the US Embassy in Armenia. Within the framework of this project, in 2022 the building of the fire-rescue squad of Ashotsk is supposed to be finished and opened. Launched the constructing activities of the central base of Sevan special Water Rescue squad, which carries out its activities in “Sevan National Park”. In the scope of Armenian-American cooperation collaboration projects in the field of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear security were highlighted.
Reaffirming the readiness of the American side in continuing and expanding the cooperation, Ambassador Lynne Tracy mentioned that regarding from the point of view of security the importance of the projects referring to disaster risk reduction and response is always emphasized.
According to Brigadier General Edward L. Vaughan, the two countries have established diplomatic relations for already 30 years and are based on mutual respect and the common democratic values, which allows to expand the projects, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
