“Armenia and Russia are strategic partners. At the moment, a new conversation has started between Armenia and Turkey through the special representatives of the parties. The conversation is new. The relevant departments and the special representative will inform about the developments,” Artur Hovhannisyan, a member of the Civil Contract party, told reporters in the National Assembly on January 25, referring to media reports that in case of possible Armenian-Turkish dialogue and opening of borders, the Russian military base in Gyumri will be removed.
“I do not know anything about the bases of such conversations. They have no substantiation at the moment. Therefore, they are not subject to interpretation. There is no such talk in reality. Such comments by the media are imaginary,” the MP said. Vahagn Hovakimyan, another member of the Civil Contract, noted that the contract for the operation of the military base is until 2049. “Such nonsense is probably spread for you to ask a question.”
