“Do you want another war?” Marukyan is in favor of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations

January 29,2022 14:25

“I see a threat in not normalizing relations. That threat has already taken place. If they had not interfered in 2008 and Serzh Sargsyan’s initiative had taken place, this war might not have happened this way,” Edmon Marukyan, leader of the Bright Armenia party and former MP, told reporters at Yerablur on January 27 in response to the question of whether he sees a threat in the context of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations?

Marukyan noted that in 2008, he also thought that Armenian-Turkish relations should be normalized without preconditions. “I am glad that after the first meeting of the special representatives, there is a clear message in the statement that the negotiations continue and have started without preconditions.”

In response to the remark that Turkey supported Azerbaijan in the war, the threat continues on the border, and soldiers are killed, Marukyan said. “There was such a catastrophe because we did not use the chances given at the time well or we used them, but it did not work out. Now there is a chance to normalize relations. The non-normalization of relations will lead to new wars and victims in the future.

Whom do you support, do you want a war again?” In response to the objection that the President of Azerbaijan, for example, sees the normalization of relations in the context of recognizing his territorial integrity, Marukyan stressed, “In Armenia, they discuss more what the leader of Azerbaijan sees, instead of saying what we see. The leader of Azerbaijan sees a lot, and I see that Artsakh is an established factor, and the security situation is maintained through Russian peacekeepers. It is more dangerous not to have Armenian-Turkish talks and not to settle them. I still support settlement because non-settlement will bring new disasters.”
