The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) on Tuesday expressed deep concern over Azerbaijan’s plans to erase Armenian inscriptions from churches in the territory of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), that fell under its control during the 44-day war.
“We are deeply concerned by Azerbaijan’s plans to remove Armenian Apostolic inscriptions from churches. We urge the government to preserve and protect places of worship and other religious and cultural sites,” USCIRF Chair Nadine Maenza said in a tweet.
