“I reaffirm that this is not the first time that the Belarusian President’s original geopolitical analyses and comments have received the attention of international partners and are being discussed in various countries, including Armenia,” the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan said during a government-NA questions-and-answers session on February 9. In an interview with Vladimir Solovyov, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that other republics of the post-Soviet space could join Belarus and Russia in a united country, most likely Armenia, because “nobody needs it.”
“I repeat that we are deeply convinced that these formulations were aimed at serving the internal political agenda of the President of Belarus. You can be sure that it is not related to the Armenian foreign policy agenda,” Mirzoyan assured. He then confirmed the information that the Ambassador of Belarus to the Republic of Armenia was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
“We conveyed to the ambassador our conviction that our statements about each other should be based on mutual respect and take into account each other’s interests and sovereignty. We are ready to continue to support Belarus in various international forums in case of relevant official applications.”
