After the devastating war, Armenia chose the path of early elections and the solution of internal political crisis issues. The head of the Armenian delegation to Euronest, MP of the Armenian National Assembly Civil Contract faction Maria Karapetyan stated this during the sittings of the commissions of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan on February 22.
“We are talking about the rule of law in Armenia and the strengthening of peace outside our borders. In other words, we will work to solve problems in the short term. First of all, we will unblock the communications of the region, not only for economic issues, but also for security. The second is the demarcation and delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We believe that the armed forces of Armenia and Azerbaijan should withdraw from the border on a mirror basis,” said Maria Karapetyan.
As for the Artsakh conflict, Karapetyan stressed that the conflict is not resolved. “We are not ready to involve the international community in the continuation of the conflict. We intend to involve the international community in its solution in order to achieve stability in the region. Armenian prisoners of war must be returned, we call for their return. Humanitarian organizations in Artsakh must have unimpeded access to monitor the state of cultural heritage. As for the normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations, it can proceed regardless of the Artsakh conflict. We welcome the process and want to see results. It means opening the Armenian-Turkish border. It should be reminded that Turkey has closed the border by itself.”
