Yerevan should take into account the fact that Ukraine has almost always voted against Armenia on all international platforms. Speaking about the Russian-Ukrainian war on February 25, former Deputy Defense Minister Artak Zakaryan said at the Hayeli press club. According to him, these contradictions have been at the level of both parliamentary and official diplomacy since 2014. “We have also had contradictions in foreign policy. It is obvious that Ukraine has always been in favor of Azerbaijan, not taking into account Armenia’s position. It refers to both Karabakh and other security-related issues,” Artak Zakaryan said.
He thinks that Yerevan’s position on the events in Ukraine should be clear and grounded. Regarding the Russian-Azerbaijani declaration, Artak Zakaryan said that it is a counterbalance to the Shushi Declaration on allied relations with Turkey. To the observation that the current government contributes in every way to Artsakh joining Azerbaijan, Artak Zakaryan responded, yes, the current government contributes, but the current Russian Federation imagines things differently. “Today’s Russia is fighting for its security, and its security forces it to have strong allies in all its border areas and to have a stable, long-term reliable development.”
According to Artak Zakaryan, Azerbaijan will never be an ally for Russia. According to Artak Zakaryan, the territory of Azerbaijan has always been more attractive for Russia, and for Russia, as a natural ally, it has been, is and will be the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian people, but not these authorities. According to him, Armenia has no more dangerous enemy than Turkey, and Armenia has no better friend than Russia.
