February 26,2022 16:15

“Armenian-Russian relations are at the highest level,” said Professor Ashot Yengoyan, Chair of Political Science Theory and History Department at Yerevan State University, during a Moscow-Yerevan roundtable discussion at the Sputnik Armenia Multimedia Press Center on February 25.

According to him, the experts must go down to the real ground, “in many cases, their opinion will change.”

“When we look at the last decade, after the revolutionary events, we see that it was during that period that the Armenian-Russian relations deepened, I think they became more credible. This became even more apparent after the 44-day war. Armenian-Russian relations have become stronger, now they are at the highest level.”

Speaking about the disagreements, he said, “There may be disagreements, which are especially connected with the genesis of the political leadership of the Republic of Armenia, the peculiarities of its origin. Many people doubt whether the Armenian-Russian relations are really honest. Many of our government officials have been involved in various foreign grants. But the objective reality allows us to even change our opinions, to look at the problems more realistically.”

Ashot Yengoyan insisted that there are common interests with Russia and assured, “We can not do without each other. Armenia is as important to Russia as Russia is to us. The Armenian nation needs a strong Russia. History shows that if Russia faces problems, we also have serious problems.”
