In a conversation with Aravot, Civil Contract deputy Vigen Khachatryan expressed an opinion that today’s parliamentary opposition is trying in every way to “throw the state off the cliff.”
“This opposition has stated that they will be tough on the government, this government can not work well, and that their goal is to prove that the government works poorly and they are lying. Their goal is to bring Kocharyan back. Let them say it openly, but they do not name Kocharyan. They are lying when they say that the goal is to remove this government. Their goal is to bring Kocharyan back, but they are ashamed to say so openly. The people will say, are you making fun of us? Whom do you want to bring back? They know exactly what they are doing. I say the opposition is the opposition of the whole Armenian people, not the 300,000 people who thought they could rule. You have to watch what the opposition wants, to solve the problems or to show that we are bad. The answer to that question is that in 4 years the people will say in the elections whether we were good or bad. Why do they not want to come to the polls in 4 years, because the person they are following will be worthless in 4 years? They do not have time to be patient, because in the next elections, if they come and say, ‘We want to bring Kocharyan to power,’ Kocharyan’s resources may be reduced, he will not be able to spend that much money on the election campaign.”
According to our observation that in his last press conference Robert Kocharyan published data from a poll where the rating of the authorities was quite low, and according to him, “42% in Yerevan is against the current government,” that is, they think that the government’s true faces have been revealed and worn out, Vigen Khachatryan responded, “Any government makes plans after the elections. Some of them are implemented, some of them are not, and society is excited or sad, but we should put ourselves in the place of the naive, let’s say there was no epidemic, there was no war… even more than that. There is a limit to all that. They are trying to accuse this government of inciting and losing the war. Ehh, let’s just say I’ve seen better.

The Armenian people went to the polls after the war and trusted this government, saying that the others were to blame. Whoever is to blame is not an authority. Well, how can we say that you are to blame? But we do not say that we should follow the culprit, should we? The tragedy of this war was the failure to pursue a peace plan in 1997, which was authored by Kocharyan. We have been ruined for twenty years, the state system has collapsed, Kocharyan has become rich with his family, Serzh Sargsyan has become rich with his brothers, and the people have been disgraced by the war. Now who is to blame? What do you want? I will openly tell you that this is not right. And now they say that they must disturb us day and night. You can not disturb us. They hinder themselves. They are consumed.”
