Garegin Chugaszyan, a member of the National Democratic Pole (NDP) Council, answered Aravot’s question at the scientific conference organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Moscow Treaty signed in 1921 about what our way out is, as Russia is not desirable and Turkey is not allowed.
“It is a false dilemma because we see that it is not only Turkey or Russia in the world. There is the West, there is the East, there is Iran. They have different interests, and we are in the middle. Why do we only see Turkey and Russia? We do not even see Iran, which is now opening up to the West. Not to mention the West that has come to Georgia. We are not in a vacuum, our people are being manipulated.”
Garegin Chugaszyan commented on the fact that the United States or the West, which is in favor of establishing historical justice according to the NDP, now does not put on the table the illegality of the Moscow Treaty of 1921, which was signed with gross violations of international law. “It is written on our Ministry of Foreign Affairs website that the Armenian-American diplomatic relations were established only 30 years ago. It is written in America that Armenia established diplomatic relations with the United States 100 years ago, in the same year it was occupied by Turks and Russians. All this shows that the Armenian authorities are not in control of their rights. What do we demand that America should do?
Shouldn’t the issues be raised by Armenia? It’s the same why the West did not raise the issue of the 44-day war when there was an Armenian government that could raise the issue at the UN. Why wasn’t it raised? If you have a seat, you have rights and you do not use them, why, by what logic do you demand that others come and protect your rights? If you are reluctant, not a prisoner, but a slave and even want to give up your inner freedom and struggle for it, no one in the world will respect you. Nobody respects the slave… They say that America or Europe does not protect us. How can it not defend us when Blinken or Macron call and say that the Karabakh issue is not resolved yet, while the government says that Artsakh can also be part of Azerbaijan?”
