“Armenia and Turkey can and should normalize relations, it’s worth it”: Ararat Mirzoyan

March 24,2022 15:50

“Participating in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum was the right thing to do. As before, now we are convinced that Armenia and Turkey can and should normalize relations. It’s worth it. That is, they should establish relations and open the borders,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan said during the government-National Assembly questions-and-answer/ session on March 23. He believes that his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu “had a positive impact on the process.”

“No tangible agreement was reached, but the parties reaffirmed that they continue to dialogue without preconditions, aiming to really open the borders. Tactically, there are differences between the parties, but at the verbal level we both confirm that the end result is the opening of borders. In that context, we also discussed the issues in order to facilitate the life of our compatriots operating in the commercial sphere.”

Ararat Mirzoyan agreed with the remark of Civil Contract faction MP Hripsime Grigoryan that his smile and the absence of Cavusoglu’s tie were manipulated more. Mirzoyan mentioned that the format was without ties. “Some were wearing ties, some were not.  As for my smile. With respect to the feelings of the families of our fallen soldiers, if I know that my smile can save the life of one Armenian soldier in the future, then I will smile again. I will smile, and I will smile again.”
