Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Georgia

On March 29, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Tbilisi on a working visit, met with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani.

The interlocutors commended that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Georgia and discussed in detail the issues of wide-range agenda of Armenian-Georgian friendly cooperation, expressing readiness to put efforts towards developing the cooperation in bilateral and multilateral dimensions and strengthening the Armenian-Georgian political dialogue.

The Foreign Ministers touched upon the further promotion of economic relations and the opportunities for the increase of trade turnover between the two countries, as well as the prospects of cooperation in the field of transport communication.

Issues related to regional and international security were discussed.

Ararat Mirzoyan touched upon the incursion of the units of Azerbaijani armed forces into the village of Parukh in Nagorno-Karabakh, the consistent exerting of psychological pressure on the peaceful population of Artsakh and the actions aimed at creating a humanitarian crisis. The importance of the return of Azerbaijani units to the starting positions of March 23, and the adherence to the ceasefire regime enshrined in the November 9 Trilateral Statement was emphasized.

Ararat Mirzoyan also presented the position of the Armenian side regarding the launch of negotiations on a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing in that context the mediating role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. The efforts towards de-escalating the situation and establishing stability in the region was underlined.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia also briefed his counterpart on the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey without preconditions.
