“We must look at what this government is doing for Karabakh and how it treats the Karabakh authorities. It was this government and these authorities that gave the biggest status to the Karabakh authorities, and it was this government that gave the most money,” Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the RA National Assembly Civil Contract faction, said at the March 28 session of the RA Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration. According to him, the result of the current situation was the wrong policy for 30 years.
He continued, “It is a very difficult time now. I want to call on all our neighbors, our brotherly states – Georgians, Abkhazians, Ossetians, Azeris, Turks – who for centuries have turned this region into a war zone, who for centuries have fought with each other. But these people have lived in this region for centuries, except for one or two so-called tribes or nations. Now I want to understand one thing: how long do we always have to fight, to destroy, and to kill the young people we have? Everything will be destroyed, and they will want to restore it for decades. This mentality must disappear in this region, otherwise our generations will live in a bad region for centuries and millennia. There is a diplomatic language, a system that does its job very clearly.”
Referring to Andranik Tevanyan’s question to RA Deputy Foreign Minister Armen Ghevondyan about his personal point of view and if he rules out any status of Artsakh within Azerbaijan or not, Khachatur Sukiasyan said, “My personal opinion is based only on what will lead us to development and getting stronger. If I have to do something, my nation will be destroyed, I will hand over territories, I will not be able to create an independent state for centuries, of course, whatever you want to say is the worst thing. What do we want in this region? Or do we not have an obligation to our generations, we can not create a developed area, have a normal relationship with each other, or make a brotherhood? We feel sorry for them, they feel sorry for us. What do we want? Have you assessed our capabilities? Have you ever asked yourself about how for thirty years we go, we lose money in casinos, that we rob, take money, buy buildings abroad, defend Karabakh, create an army, create a healthcare system, and every time we fight.
We always want to fight, to cry, then to demand from others. It is about institutional relations. Our government says we have an agreement with this or that state. Within the framework of that agreement, the government expressed that there is nothing wrong with that. We also have our obligations and we must fulfill our obligations as well. Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan have obligations. Everyone is obliged to fulfill the document they have signed. Many of our neighbors and brotherly states must realize that we should not create any conflict in the region, but support each other. We are neighbors, we will live in the same place for centuries. Let’s go that route.”
