“Pashinyan’s words can be a manipulation to advance the ‘peace agenda’”: Former Minister of Defense

April 02,2022 12:22

“We are in a state of less than 5 before the war,” Seyran Ohanyan, a member of the Armenia faction, said at a briefing in the parliament on April 1 referring to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s speech, according to which Azerbaijan is trying to legitimize a large-scale attack on Nagorno-Karabakh and the Republic of Armenia. According to him, there is always a danger of war and the situation in Armenia and Artsakh is difficult, but in his opinion, Pashinyan’s words can be manipulated to advance the “peace agenda.”

“Instead of strengthening their positions in a year, they think about peace, they have thought of a new term – mirror retreat. We are against the five points of Azerbaijan, in case of the implementation of which Artsakh is endangered – the prospect that Artsakh can not be part of Azerbaijan.

The government talks about the rights of the Artsakh Armenians, but when you ask about the self-determination of Artsakh, they do not talk, they refer to their interviews,” Seyran Ohanyan added. He demands that the government find out how they responded to Azerbaijan’s proposals․ “If they say they agree, then they refuse Artsakh’s self-determination.”

Seyran Ohanyan also mentioned that it is concerning and unfortunate that in such a situation, we do not have a head of the General Staff yet. “The personnel policy in that structure is unacceptable. In case of personnel policy in the leadership of the Armed Forces, what is possible – appointing a new and more trained person to the position or removing the existing one and appointing an acting director? When they fire and don’t appoint newer, trained people, that is not clear to me.”
