“It will be a dangerous precedent. They show Azerbaijan that it can use tools of force”: Political scientist

“After November 26, the delimitation commission was not established. Nikol Pashinyan offered to make a mirror retreat to ease the tension, and Azerbaijan presented it as a precondition for Armenia. As a result of the meeting in Brussels, the Republic of Armenia largely put aside that precondition, that is, it was decided to set up that commission by the end of April, without implementing the mentioned steps. This is why I am convinced that the process will be quick. The commission will most likely be set up at the end of April,” political scientist Tigran Grigoryan said, referring to the announcement of the results of the Nikol Pashinyan-Ilham Aliyev meeting in Brussels during a discussion at the Article 3 Press Club.

“This is the third statement in which there is no word about Artsakh and the conflict. This largely corresponds to Azerbaijan’s position that the conflict is over or that there is not even an administrative unit in Artsakh. It is obvious that such issues have been discussed, but the Armenian side must make greater efforts to find a place for Artsakh in some way,” said Tigran Grigoryan.

According to him, it is obvious that the Minsk Group largely ceases to exist. “In the conditions of unprecedented Russia-West confrontation, it will be difficult to find common ground with the size of the OSCE Minsk Group. Future talks will most likely take place through the mediation of either the European Union or Russia. This is a “step backwards” because recently the Armenian government has been regularly emphasizing the Minsk Group. The consequence of such steps is that there will be dangerous precedents. They show Azerbaijan that by using tools of force, Armenia can be forced to give up its positions.”
