“The conversation took place at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side. We discussed what has been discussed over the past year; recently in Brussels, the mechanisms for setting up a commission on demarcation, border security, and ideas for launching negotiations on a settlement agreement to be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan said in response to the question of the deputy of the Civil Contract faction, Sona Ghazaryan, about the details of the telephone conversation with the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs. The deputy inquired whether this means that the OSCE MG’s format of the settlement of the Artsakh conflict is moving to the level of a bilateral format. “Our ideas about the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs remain valid, we see the settlement in that format. Unfortunately, you know that there are contradictions between the co-chairing countries for well-known reasons, we can not allow a vacuum to arise in that respect. I would refrain from stating that the format is bilateral. There were no bilateral talks, but there was talk of starting negotiations,” Ararat Mirzoyan answered.
