“I hasten to disappoint the people who expect that Artsakh or the people of Artsakh may be disappointed,” Arman Abovyan, member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) political council, said during a discussion on “How to Give Armenia New Hope and Prospects for Development?” in the Armenian Agenda’s series on April 15.
He returned from Artsakh in the morning. In his conversations with people on the streets and politicians, he saw a picture that the people of Artsakh refuse to “become slaughterers” and go to “some era of peace.”
According to Arman Abovyan, all the speeches in the Armenian political field are heard in Artsakh. They analyze the speeches, and the mood is like this. “There is both a public and an administrative consensus in Artsakh, regardless of the position adopted by the Armenian government. It is an existential issue for them: will they not agree to just go and be massacred? The people of Artsakh have an inner conviction that they have no place to retreat.” Speaking about the thesis proposed by Nikol Pashinyan, lowering the bar of Armenian demands, Arman Abovyan says that in Artsakh they call it “suicide” and “They literally say, ‘we will not give our children the mouths of the Turks.’ People can say what they want.”
“My grandson is studying in Yerevan, but after Nikol Pashinyan’s announcement he decided to return. In fact, they are declaring war on us… we will fight, we will not agree. Let no one think that by destroying Artsakh or handing it over to the Turks, Armenia will get ‘peace’ or the right to live in the region,” a woman from Artsakh told Arman Abovyan. He completely agreed with the woman’s descriptions. He is more than convinced that Artsakh will not take any of Armenia’s positions that would endanger the existence of Artsakh or the security of the Armenians of Artsakh as a basis. The speaker finds it difficult to predict what will happen next, but he thinks that the “Turkish-Azerbaijani gang” occupying the territories of Armenia and Artsakh will definitely increase the number and volume of military provocations. “All the processes related to peace brought the war to a more rapid pace,” Arman Abovyan concluded, adding that the way out of the current situation is to stand united and revolt against the steps of the current government.

According to the speaker, political forces and non-governmental organizations must adopt at least two provisions. “The country and the people are going to be dismantled. Do we accept it or not?” According to him, people may be rude, but it is necessary to say honestly what the situation is, because in that sense the government is sincere, it clearly states its goal – we will hand over the state and national interests so we can get peace. “Now we have to ask people a simple question: do you agree to commit suicide? Armenia also has an existential problem. Do we agree with that? It is not a matter of liking a leader now or not, now we all have to face reality. The so-called peace agreement will lead to war, the so-called peace agreement will lead to disaster, the so-called peace agreement will at least lead to the division of Armenia.”
According to Arman Abovyan, further developments will depend on the answer to this question. “What they want to convince us of today is national-state suicide,” said Arman Abovyan, assuring that the security of our state and people is only of interest to us, because the “international community” will not help us, as the government is trying to convince us about today.
