Georgia: Following Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s decision to make the document public, the Georgian Government has published the European Commission Accession questionnaire for Georgia’s European Union membership on Friday, April 15, so that everybody can get access to it.

The decision to make the questionnaire public was made during the meeting of the Government Commission on EU Integration, convened by the Georgian Premier.

The first part of the EU questionnaire includes political and economic parts, which was delivered to Georgian authorities on Monday in Luxembourg. Based on the questionnaire, the European Commission will prepare an evaluation report on granting candidate status to the country.

According to the Government Administration, Georgia will also get the second part of the questionnaire, which will focus on sectoral topics and the country’s sectors’ compliance with EU regulations.

The Government published the EU Accession Questionnaire required by the European Commission to release its Opinion on giving the EU candidate status to Georgia.

In Luxembourg on April 11, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi handed over the EU membership questionnaire to Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili.

Furthermore, the 369 questions are divided into hundreds of sub-questions to which the Georgian Government must provide comprehensive answers.

75 to 135 questions stand out as especially critical, which unites the reform of the justice system as a whole. This is also a significant issue because the EU itself has repeatedly stated its position on the issues in the Georgian judiciary and the delayed reforms.
