Mikayel Hambardzumyan, Deputy Director of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, who directed the NSS during the war, was at Freedom Square on April 19. Speaking to reporters about the 5 points proposed by Baku, he said that such crucial issues can not be decided by the government alone, that is why people like Artur Vanetsyan have to take this step.
“People, having no other way out, are participating in a sit-in strike, we have friends there who are on a hunger strike. Why is this being done? Because people see that the authorities, without asking the public opinion, without having that mandate, try to solve national issues. One of the variants of this, for example, I imagine, is to honestly present the value of the so-called “peace treaty,” that is, what the Azerbaijanis and Turks expect from us.They want these 10 villages in Armenia, it is such a small area, what do they offer us in return, what fate do they see in connection with Artsakh? They should present it clearly, not say it is without preconditions. How come these 30 years were with preconditions, now this topic has become without preconditions? It does not happen, it is a myth, it is a lie. They should be put to public trial, discussion, after which the public should express its opinion.
Moreover, the answer to that should be given not only by the people living in Armenia, but also by our compatriots living in the Diaspora and the people of Artsakh. When will there be that “yes” or “no”, then the second question may arise: which political force should lead the people, the country? This political team, seeks to open an era of peace with Turkey?
