The Government proposes to make amendment and addendum to the draft law on RA Citizenship, according to which, the order, terms of acquiring the RA citizenship, as well as discussing the applications for terminating the RA citizenship and the list of the church structures, and the document on baptism given by them is considered a document approving the fact of being Armenian by nationality are specified.
The draft law was debated in the first reading at April 21 sitting of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.
Presenting the motivation of making amendment and addendum, the RA Deputy Head of Police noted that the proposals was set out by the decision of the RA Government in 2007, but it was not stipulated by law, and that authority was not given to the executive body.
According to the Deputy Head of Police, the aim of the draft law is to give authority to the Government to approve the RA citizenship, the order, terms of discussing the applications for acquiring, terminating the RA citizenship and the list of the church structures, and the document on baptism given by them is considered a document approving the fact of being Armenian by nationality.

The Committee Chair Vladimir Vardanyan, considering the draft law important and necessary, has opined that the formulations need to be revised. Nevertheless, he called on the Committee members to endorse the draft law.
