The danger of such a conflict should not be underestimated, Russian Foreign Minister said
/TASS/. Inadmissibility of a nuclear war is the principled position of Moscow, the danger of such a conflict should not be underestimated, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Bolshaya Igra (The Great Game) program on Channel One TV channel on Monday.
The top diplomat reiterated that in January, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council made a statement on the inadmissibility of a nuclear war.
“This is our principled position, we are guided by this, and of course I would not want to see these risks artificially inflated now, when the risks are rather significant,” the foreign minister said stressing that there are many who want to do this. “The danger is serious, it is real, it should not be underestimated,” Lavrov said.

According to him, “Russia is already doing much” to resolve the current crisis. Back during the administration of former US President Donald Trump, Russia sought the confirmation at the summit level of the 1987 statement from Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan that a nuclear war was inadmissible. “Regretfully, we failed to convince our colleagues of the necessity of this move, but we agreed very quickly with the administration of [US President Joe] Biden, and our presidents made this statement during the Geneva summit last June,” Lavrov said.
