‘Has Russia unilaterally withdrawn from the agreement, or Armenia is trying to withdraw?’: Oppositional MP

May 12,2022 12:02

“I want to talk about something that has been speculated a lot lately, especially by the so-called government. 2 days ago, we celebrated the victory of our ancestors in which Armenians have great achievements. When our ancestors fought in Staliningrand or Kursk, anyway they raised the question are we going to live here, as Turkey wanted to open the second front to support Nazi Germany,” Vahe Hakobyan, MP from the oppositional “Hayastan” fraction, announced at a rally demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on May 11.

“Decades have passed. Ankara’s policy has not changed. Taking into account threats from Turkey and Azerbaijan, a military-political agreement was signed in the newly independent Republic of Armenia, in 1997. Now there are threats both from Turkey and Azerbaijan and from our government, they say that if we don’t give in, that if we don’t give land there will be a war. I have a question – what has changed? Has the agreement been canceled? Where are the international guarantees? Has Russia unilaterally withdrawn from the agreement? I don’t think so. Or maybe Armenia is trying to withdraw? It is not excluded. This is another reason for them to leave as fast as possible and not to drive a wedge between us and our ally,” Vahe Hakobyan added. According to him, the government intimidates its people for the benefit of its enemies.
