Opposition member on Robert Kocharyan, disturbing the movement, and on the ‘corridor’ opened by Levon Ter-Petrossian

May 14,2022 14:14

Edmon Marukyan, ambassador-at-large, referring to the opposition struggle, said that any shock is fraught with new wars. They know it well, and they consider it more important to bring back Surik Khachatryan as a governor than the state of Armenia.

Armenia’s First President Levon Ter-Petrossian suggested the opposition sit and talk with Prime Minister Pashinyan. According to him, if the internal political shocks continue, the solutions imposed on us will be more painful, despite the fact that Pashinyan or some other person signs the final document. There is an opinion, that Levon Ter-Petrossian is doing a favor to the opposition, he is leaving a corridor to the opposition so that they can save their faces and will be able to return to the parliament. Otherwise, the movement will die down, and they will be left with nothing.

Artur Khachatryan, MP from the “Hayastan” (Armenia) faction, told “Aravot”, “Firstly, I don’t agree with that opinion that the movement is dying down. Secondly, I don’t agree with the opinion that Levon Ter-Petrossian is doing a favor to us. Thirdly, I want to remind you how Levon Ter-Petrossian participated in the last elections. He just received a handful of votes.

Edmon Marukyan is a man, read his posts on social media you will see that he says one thing in the morning, another thing – in the afternoon, and a completely different thing in the evening. Nikol Pashinyan and Levon Ter-Petrossian are cut from the same cloth, they are opportunists with the same mindset. As for the change of government, that agenda has always been there, as we have always seen.

The policy of this government is taking us to the abyss. As we approach the abyss and, we approach the abyss, his last statements on lowering the bar, in that background, Aliyev’s threatenings, we don’t have a place to give in. Shall we wait for the country to fall into the abyss? Or shall we try taking it out? Should we not let the country fall into the abyss? The sophistry has one goal – to try to extinguish the movement. That is the goal. Some people cover it with intellectual texts, the others – with shouts, but deep down, they have one aim – to hit the movement and keep Pashinyan’s government.

There are members of the opposition that are sure if Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, won’t participate in the marches, more people will take to the streets, which means he plays an obstructive role in the movement. Do you share that opinion? Artur Khachatryan answered, “Let those oppositionists get up and march, let the people gather around them if they are that smart. This is a network, decentralized struggle, and those who are against this government, who understand that the country is in the wrong direction, can walk side by side trying to prevent this process. Then when normal elections are held, we will decide in which direction and how we will take the country from the abyss. But let 1000 people gather around those who give advice.”
