“My son was killed by getting serious injuries in environs of Shushi on November 7”, Borik Kotikov, the father of Gevorg Adrikhanyan, who was killed in the 44-day war in Nagorno Karabakh, told during Aravot’s “Areresum” (Confrontation) project referring to the statement of Armenia’s Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan that “we could have prevented the war, as a result of which we would have had the same situation, of course without causalities.” “Not only could my son, but also many boys from his detachment have survived,” he added.
The parents and relatives of the soldiers killed in the 44-day war demand from the law enforcement bodies involve Nikol Pashinyan as a defendant in the criminal case on the circumstances that led to the catastrophic consequences of the Artsakh war and hold him accountable for their children’s death. The prosecutor’s office assures that they are not constrained in any war cases.
The other guest of the project, Anna Mkrtchyan, the mother of Haykaz Mkrtchyan, who was killed in the war, is skeptical. “It would have been perfect if they weren’t constrained. But regarding the current conditions, it is unlikely … I think there will be some influence anyway.”
“It’s not a political struggle, it is a demand of justice. In the end, our boys fell victim to the thing called politics in the end,” Anna Mkrtchyan says, referring to the accusations that parents who gather in front of the Prosecutor General’s office are part of the struggle, adding, “None of us is going the swallow the words said. We are going to demand an answer for every drop of our boys’ blood. We didn’t bring up our boys, to be sacrificed “for nothing”. It turns out that they took the boys, soaked Artsakh in their blood and then gave it to Turks as a present … And then at the fag end, he says that I could have stopped but I didn’t.”
“Everyone has to answer for what he has done. This answer is connected with blood, so stop playing games. This answer is connected with blood, don’t play with it,” Borik Koytikov said adding, “When I see that many people don’t understand these simple things, I should ask them – does it have to also happen to your families so that you can understand?”

We asked them, what do they expect saying that Nikol Pashinyan should answer it? Criminal or moral responsibility? And in this context, we reminded them that Nikol Pashinyan was kneeling in front of the graves and was apologizing to the soldiers’ parents. “I don’t accept any apologies,” Anna Mkrtchyan answered, “There were several opportunities to stop the war, but nothing was done. The last opportunity was not told, and then it was turned out after the war. I don’t accept any apologies. He, who is guilty, those, who are guilty, everyone must be held accountable… I won’t return my son, but I demand an answer for the blood shed.”
Borik Koytikov added, “And if the person who apologizes can find a word to say to me: forget the last time you saw your son, before closing the lid of the coffin … if the person who apologizes can take that out from my soul, I can forgive him in my soul … You cannot just say we bow you. You don’t need to bow. We are lenient. But how can someone apologize for the blood?”
