The Brussels statement contradicts the political agenda of the Republic of Artsakh. Nelly Baghdasaryan

“The Brussels discussion and statement mainly raise questions about the attempts to resolve the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict. They contradict the political agenda formed by the Republic of Artsakh and the formulations contained in the package of documents formed around the settlement of the conflict,” said Advisor to the President of the Republic of Artsakh on International Relations Nelly Baghdasaryan in her interview with Aravot.am, referring to the trilateral statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, adopted yesterday in Brussels, held under the patronage of the President of the Council of Europe Charles Michel.

After the trilateral meeting, the statement distributed by the Chairman of the Council of Europe also contains an appeal to the peace treaty: the document notes that the leaders of the countries agreed to promote discussions on a peace treaty between the two countries. It is reported that this process will be promoted by teams headed by the foreign ministers of the two countries. This section also states, «In addition to this track, I also stressed to both leaders that it was necessary that the rights and security of the ethnic Armenian population in Karabakh be addressed».

According to Nelly Baghdasaryan, the problem of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict is once again in the arena of complex, dangerous and competitive geopolitical developments. “Against the background of these developments, we are once again fixing the existing facts. Firstly, there is one platform for the settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict, whose mandate is based on three fundamental principles of settlement, including the fundamental principle of the right of peoples to self-determination of international law, which should be launched by satisfying the recognition of the right to self-determination of the population of an independent unrecognized State of the Republic of Artsakh.

The second assertion: The peacekeeping mission of the Russian Federation guarantees the security of the virtually independent population of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh. The status quo created in the presence of the Russian peacekeeping must be maintained until the final and comprehensive settlement of the conflict, based on the three principles of international law adopted by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmanship. In accordance with this, the country carrying out the peacekeeping mission, the Russian Federation, in the current conditions, plays a decisive role.”
