On May 21, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London an exquisite concert-exhibition “Multinational tribute to Alexander Arutiunian” took place in St Cuthbert’s Church. This special concert was dedicated to the great composer’s 102nd birth anniversary.
The event was organised by Klingen Choir and Cultural Association under the auspices of the Embassy of Armenia to the UK. The concert was organised by conductor, tenor and pianist Sipan Olah (UK-Armenia).
Greetings and welcoming speech were delivered by Father James Chegwidden of St Cuthbert’s church and his Excellency Varuzhan Nersesyan the Ambassador of Armenia to the UK.
The concert was attended by the chairman of the Armenian Community Council in the UK Armand Abramyan, chairmen of a number of Armenian organizations in the UK, musicians from the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music in London.
Pieces by the magnificent composer Arutiunian concerto for Violin & string orchestra, capriccio for cello & orchestra, choir and solo songs, solo instrumental pieces, arias from opera “Sayat Nova” were performed during the event.
Masterpieces by legendary composer were performed by internationally acclaimed professional musicians Ani Batikyan- violin, Sipan Olah -tenor & conductor, Christopher Hedges-cello, Hayarpi Yeghikyan – soprano, Narine Malkhasyan –soprano, Maria Palazian – piano, Klingen Choir and Klingen Chamber Orchestra.
There was a special picture exhibition by artists Anna Virabyan & Narine Malkhasyan.
One of the missions of this event was to promote musical heritage by Alexander Arutiuninan in the UK.
