Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova touched upon the European Union’s efforts to play an active role in the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
“We see the EU’s persistent efforts to penetrate the process of implementing high-level trilateral agreements. We expect Brussels to help implement them (if they want to), but they should not try to play geopolitical games,” Zakharova said.
She stressed that Russia’s strategic goal is to turn the South Caucasus into a zone of stability and prosperity, just as it contributed to that process. According to her, one of the key issues is the full normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, and the establishment of lasting peace.
Zakharova also noted that Russia has exceptional expertise in the settlement and delimitation of disputed border issues in the post-Soviet space, and in addition, they have the necessary cartographic materials at their disposal.
