Aravot asked Foreign Minister of Artsakh Davit Babayan whether he was not afraid that the statement of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev that any issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh would be implemented after the demarcation and that the issue of Artsakh would be closed with the demarcation, he replied, “One of the main goals of Azerbaijan is to force Armenia to recognize Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan through delimitation or some other way. This will be a geopolitical, moral, and psychological catastrophe. It is unacceptable for us to be part of Azerbaijan, even if the whole world has that opinion, we can get out of that situation, but the whole world does not have that opinion.
I do not think such a thing can happen. I do not imagine that Mother Armenia can give it up. Let’s not go into details. There is no possibility for us in the future of Azerbaijan. There are all possibilities to save and preserve at least what is left of Artsakh and not be finally absorbed by Azerbaijan. Everything depends on us.”
In response to our question of if we make use of those opportunities, Babayan answered, “The final result will prove this. I think we will succeed.”
