Find an alternative speech

June 04,2022 11:11

“France Square is crowded with people. The victory of the resistance movement is near. Pashinyan’s government has only a few days left.” If I write like that, it will certainly be approved by the supporters of the opposition. “A group of rejected revanchists and enemies of the Armenian state took to the streets to defend their robbery.” The supporters of the government will like such a description of the events. The only problem here is that both allegations are false.

Tens of thousands of people have not gathered on France Square in recent days who could carry out a change of government. Opposition leaders and their followers are reluctant to accept that fact. On the other hand, the overwhelming majority of our compatriots who have been participating in opposition rallies over the past month are really concerned about the problems of Armenia and Artsakh. They do not want Pashinyan to sign a document that will lead to the eviction of Armenians from Artsakh, and they opposed such a document against the Prime Minister of Armenia. The Armenian authorities are well aware of this, but they do not have the courage to make a direct statement, and they are attracting public attention with stories of robbery and other crimes. Some of them are true, but have nothing to do with the topic. But the brains of those in power are busy with those stories.

These two main sections of society thus do not accept reality. They deliberately avoid reality and drive away “bad thoughts” from them, and as long as that is the case, it is pointless to talk about the desired outcome. These two parts are so obsessed with each other that they want to hear only about each other and, of course, only bad things.  it is impossible to focus their attention on any other issue. To simplify a little, we can say that tens of thousands of citizens (who, as human beings, of course, are busy with their daily lives) are busy with each other as citizens. The words “Artsakh”, “robbery”, “traitor”, “murderer” are just symbols used to propagate against each other. That enmity is fruitless, meaningless, destructive.

Political teams, following the path of least resistance, are fulfilling the orders of these two sections of society, sharpening the rhetoric within that discourse to please their constituents (see paragraph 1 of this article). We need to find an alternative discourse aimed at solving problems, not blaming the opposition.
