“In the end, he will say, ‘Russians, do you need Artsakh? Take control of it, I do not need it, I have already demarcated'”: Ashotyan

“All honest politicians have said that the longer Nikol stays, the more we will lose – life, position, territory. This is not a lie,” RPA Deputy Chairman Armen Ashotyan said at a briefing on June 10, referring to reports that the Armenian government was going to leave Berdzor and surrounding villages under Azerbaijani control in July.

He mentioned, “Sometimes we are asked, if the opposition came to power, what could it do? It depends on the stage. If we had come to power on November 10 (I mean the opposition, not me), we would not have liberated Karvachar and Berdzor until our captives were returned. Those terms that they wrote- hey stupid, did you not see that there is a deadline for handing over Karvachar, and there is no deadline for the return of hundreds of boys? How is it that the deadline for handing over land was written, but not for returning ours?”

According to Armen Ashotyan, if the opposition had come to power, the Goris-Kapan highway would not have been handed over by verbal agreement, the Turks would not have entered the sovereign territory of Armenia. “Today’s disgrace would not be in the negotiation package. What are Nikol and his cronies doing today? They are introducing a new phased version, by which Armenia, without Artsakh, enters into separate agreements with Azerbaijan – a “peace treaty”, delimits it; in the first stage, Nikol wants to solve all the issues with Azerbaijan, hand in hand, at the expense of all of us. Second, the issue of Artsakh is transferred to the future, that is, Armenia is out of the game because of Nikol. Artsakh is left alone. In the end, he will say, “Russians, do you need Artsakh? Take control of it, I do not need it, I have already demarcated.”
