The CSTO is gradually becoming a more powerful player: Ararat Mirzoyan

The next sitting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers will also take place in Yerevan in the fourth quarter of 2022.RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this on June 10 during the regular sitting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers in Yerevan. The sitting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers took place in Yerevan.

It first took place in a small group, after which in his welcoming speech to the participants of the sitting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said that the CSTO is gradually becoming a more important player in ensuring the security of the member states and the Eurasian region in general. According to him, 30 years ago, the countries of the region made the right decision by establishing the CSTO, which, as a result of firm steps, led to the establishment of the structure 20 years ago.

“Our organization has a difficult task from the beginning, as each region of collective security has its own peculiarities, local needs and demands, its priorities,” said Ararat Mirzoyan, adding that there is a lot to do, but it is already clear that the need for the CSTO as a security guarantor will gradually increase, going beyond the originally set boundaries of the Eurasian region.

Ararat Mirzoyan also informed that the geopolitical realities, their CSTO counter-reaction opportunities, and issues related to the CSTO improvement were discussed at the sitting. CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas also informed that three documents will be signed as a result of the sitting. Signing of a memorandum of understanding on foreign policy, defense and security issues between the representatives of the CSTO member states and the adoption of a consultation program in 2022-2024.
