The head of the NA Civil Contract faction Hayk Konjoryan confirmed at the briefing with the journalists that the Civil Contract will soon nominate the candidacy of Anna Vardapetyan, the assistant to the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, for the post of the RA Prosecutor General. “Because Mrs. Vardapetyan, with her professional qualities, morals and values, corresponds to the requirements and mission defined by law, which, in our opinion, the future RA Prosecutor General should have,” explained the choice.
The journalists inquired whether her impartiality was not questioned, whether she would not be biased, for example, in the existing criminal cases related to Nikol Pashinyan’s alleged guilt in connection with the war. Hayk Konjoryan first mentioned that Anna Vardapetyan is not a party member. “I am sure that after being elected, she will definitely carry out the actions reserved by the constitution. She will be clean and responsible before her conscience. I am more than sure. We have had other candidates, this observation has been voiced, but I think that such observations should not be artificially spread to everyone. By that logic, the faction is a political body; one can say that the candidate chosen by the faction is constrained by the faction. This is how the essence of parliamentarism is distorted.”
To the question of whether the Civil Contract was not bothered by the fact that Anna Vardapetyan appeared in a scandal related to one of the criminal cases, Hayk Konjoryan answered, “I know that this example does not correspond to the context that was tried to present in that scandal. I know that many officials can be targeted by this or that political group or media as a result of their actions. The case you pointed out was a case of targeting, which has nothing to do with reality, with the accusations that are being voiced.”
