“A year ago, 680,000 people in society voted for the force that brought us to war. A larger part remained at home. We could not or did not want to understand the scale of the disaster. An even larger group of voters was afraid to be honest with themselves, to understand what happened. It is necessary to make a revolution in the public consciousness and explain what happened. This is a historical catastrophe from which we must try to get out,” Vahe Hovhannisyan, the coordinator of the “Alternative Projects” group, former MP, announced today during the discussion entitled “Armenian Agenda: One year after the 2021 parliamentary elections.”
According to him, as a result of the elections we got one person’s bodyguard in the legislative and executive branches․ “This National Assembly is a bodyguard of one person, legislator-executive, and has no other function. Prior to that, a judicial bodyguard had been formed, but in recent days it has been documented. The powers that be serve the personal interests of one person. That is why no work is done in Armenia today. There is no reform and progress. After the elections, we have extreme external risks, which the public does not perceive. Nobody is interested in internal risks and economic issues.”
According to Vahe Hovhannisyan, today the society is fragmented and not capable of serious success. “States can not solve problems with such barricaded societies. This is not a verdict, we should talk about it openly. What do we fail to do? We can not find the mechanisms to communicate properly to the public. That 680,000 no longer exists, it is obvious. This is proved by sociological polls and direct contacts. The indifference of the remaining 800,000 in the house is already moving, it has started to change, many are anxious, they understand the risks.”

According to Vahe Hovhannisyan, what should be done in this situation is that the accumulated internal evil should be mitigated․ “The key to the solution is in the inter-mass dialogue. These people came to power with barricades and tapes in 2018, the antidote to that is the exclusion of those barricades and tapes. No matter how difficult it is, we must be able to listen to each other’s views, respect each other and find a joint solution. We are a small country facing serious risks. Second, today it is obvious that with such management Armenia will go to a new catastrophe. Either we wait or we take control. For that we need something new to say. It does not work with the old and the same formulations. We need new views, new solutions and political currents. I do not mean those who came down from the moon, there is knowledge and experience of different generations. We were obliged to close the page of defeat, but we did not do it and it is possible only in case of a new government.”
