We must prepare for war

June 29,2022 10:15

All the issues related to the last “press conference” of the Prime Minister, including who covered it, who did not cover it, who sent a question, and who did not send, all fade against the background of what Pashinyan said. According to the press conference, Armenia will hand over the city of Berdzor, as well as the villages of Aghavno and Sus to Azerbaijan, after the other road bypassing them and connecting Armenia and Artsakh is ready. (I wonder, by the way, is it possible not to cover that statement?) It is said that this is what the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 envisages. Taking into account that the same document does not envisage the construction of a new road and knowing the “features” of Azerbaijan’s policy, to put it mildly, I think in this situation there is a danger that Artsakh will find itself in a blockade.

Pashinyan’s other statements made at the same “press conference” provide an opportunity to get an idea of Azerbaijan’s current policy. He said that Azerbaijan had canceled the Grigoryan-Hajiyev meeting and did not respond to the proposal of the foreign ministers. “They are trying to build the legitimacy of a new war,” the prime minister said, making an accurate conclusion. He is right, then he adds, “They mean a new war in three months, or three years, or thirty years. It’s a different matter.” Thirty years, of course, is not a realistic period, but the period of 3 months to 3 years, I think, is right, and war is almost inevitable during that period.

This, I think, was the main message of the “press conference.” Therefore, we must prepare for a new war. Unfortunately, our fellow citizens who think that “Russia will not allow a war to break out” are mistaken. After all, a situation may arise where Azerbaijan has the opportunity to “not listen to the Russians.”

It seems that everyone agrees that we should prepare for war without panic and, on the other hand, without relying on the “age of peace.” What does the government do to prepare for the war, what result does it seek (apart from the “number of likes”)? For starters, perhaps it is worth appointing a Chief of General Staff. What weapons will the enemy use to attack us? What weapons will we use to defend ourselves? Answering these questions is more important than talking about the “former regime” every second and on every occasion.

What is the political elite doing to prepare for war? What is society doing?
