The journalists accredited to the RA Ministry of Defense visited the Central Assembly and got acquainted with the conscription process. The chairman of the lottery commission, Colonel Sahak Sahakyan, introduced the procedure of the lottery and informed that the whole process of the lottery is broadcast to territorial subdivisions for parents. “The military-political leadership has decided that at the moment the service in Artsakh is carried out by contract soldiers. The last conscripts of the summer of 2020 will be demobilized by August 30 and we will no longer have conscripts in Artsakh. A serious package for the attractiveness of the service has been developed for Artsakh, it has been introduced and according to it the vacancies of the whole Artsakh Defense Army are being filled with contract servicemen, ”the officer said.
The colonel assured that it was enough to organize the service. “I said that a serious package of attractiveness has been introduced and based on that, mainly from the resources of Artsakh, it is replenished with contract troops, the purpose of which is to remove conscripts from the front line so that we do not carry out combat duty with conscripts at the borders.”
In response to the question of Aravot that, in fact, today Armenia is completely a border and a front line, the colonel repeated what has already been said, that they try not to make conscripts carry out combat duty as much as possible.
Aravot.am also asked about what he said about the serious package of attractiveness for contract soldiers and whether there are people from Armenia who wish. “Yes there are. And the attractiveness of the package is as follows. A soldier goes and settles there. If the soldier lives there with their family, housing conditions improve, the salary amount increases, social guarantees increase, and financial security increases. And whoever does not want to live there permanently comes and goes,” was the answer.
