The parents and relatives of the Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan after the 2020 war protested in front of the Russian Embassy in Armenia and demanded a meeting with the Russian ambassador. In conversations with journalists, the parents said that they had sent several letters to the embassy in 1.5 years, but there was no result. Now they demand their sons from Russia because the Russian peacekeepers are responsible. During an online press conference, Nikol Pashinyan attributed the responsibility to the Russian peacekeeping mission, saying that “90% of the confirmed captives were captured after the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in their area of responsibility,” after which the relatives began to protest in front of the Russian consulate in Gyumri. “If it was Chinese or French, we would go and demand from them. Since the Russian peacekeepers are our defenders, we have come here. We want our children. We do not want anything else,” said the father of a prisoner of war. “They were ‘guarantors,’” added another parent, referring to the case of the capture of Armenian servicemen in Khtsaberd.
As a result of the protest in front of the embassy, no one received the parents. They then gathered in front of the government building.
