The parliament again debated the issue of the election of a candidate nominated for the vacant position of a judge of the judicial composition in the crime investigation of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation at the extraordinary session convened on June 30 .
It should be reminded that the Supreme Judicial Council nominated Rubik Mkhitaryan, Arsen Nikoghosyan and Artur Sargsyan for that position at the sitting on June 29. However, as a result of the secret ballot, the candidates were not elected. 29 deputies voted for Rubik Mkhitaryan’s candidacy, 0 – for Arsen Nikoghosyan, 33 – for Artur Sargsyan.
According to the Constitutional Law “NA Rules of Procedure,” if none of the candidates is elected, the second round of elections is held, in which the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round can participate.

Candidate Rubik Mkhitaryan noted that the establishment of specialized courts investigating corruption crimes was a significant step in easing the workload of the courts. According to him, an increase in the number of specialized courts and judges will increase the efficiency of justice and eliminate cases of delayed justice as much as possible.
The candidate for the position of a judge of the judicial composition in the crime investigation of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation Artur Sargsyan emphasized that during his activity he was always a competitive party in the trial, submitted complaints about violations of norms of substantive and procedural law, and contributed to the precedent decisions of the Court of Cassation.
As a result of the secret ballot, none of the candidates was elected.
The NA Vice President Ruben Rubinyan who presided over the sitting informed that according to the Constitutionals Law “NA Rules of Procedure,” if a candidate for a judge of the Court of Cassation is not elected, the Supreme Judicial Council shall nominate new candidates within 10 days after the voting.
The parliament finished the work of the extraordinary session.
