“There is nothing new. What is happening is the handwriting of these authorities, which they have adopted since 2018: slander, falsification, filing cases. They started in 2018. They go knocking on everyone’s doors. Now that person speaking from the bastion of democracy (Nikol Pashinyan-G.H.) does not tolerate anything, these are just words, in reality there are violence, repression, and arrests in Armenia,” Angela Tovmasyan, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Hayeli press club and hayeli.am website, said in a conversation with Aravot, against whom a criminal case is going to be initiated.
Among others, Naira Zohrabyan, former member of the National Assembly, warned about this on her Facebook page: “All this is not new, if you remember, in 2018 our big family was subjected to such an attack and my editorial office and the Hayeli club, the so-called “Guardians of the Revolution” issued public threats, but there were no legal consequences. Those people are walking freely, they have not faced any responsibility, some of them even got a job. In fact, a person named Nikol Pashinyan who speaks of democracy actually encourages violence and this has become the clear modus operandi of these authorities. If you remember, a month ago, some people came, they said they were from the National Security Service, they wanted to enter my house… I felt that there was already a focus on my person. I think that this was specifically instructed by him, but there are also people who take the initiative on their side, so that later they say: look, you have a disposition towards this person, and we do everything from our side. Tensions have increased especially in the last two months, my YouTube channel is under attack and so is my Facebook page. He has a big gang that works in a targeted manner, protesting against this or that channel and page.
I have already presented the rest of the details, that I was invited to the National Security Service, I understood that it was not Armen Grigoryan’s work, they specifically targeted me, this is in the context of political persecution, as in the case of other persons. There are criminal cases against hundreds of people, this person has turned the country into a small prison, or he is satisfying his ambitions, or he wants all visible people to go the way he once went,” Angela Tovmasyan said.
“I am surprised that the country is not on the edge of the abyss, but in the abyss, we have lost 72 percent of our homeland, but the National Security Service is busy with such things, and all this related to my person is just an episode… In any case, for me the issue of my country is paramount, nothing will stop me from falling in front of something, thinking that the country has been surrendered… No, the country has not surrendered, these authorities will not succeed in this,” said our interlocutor. Angela Tovmasyan informed that lawyer Hayk Alumyan is dealing with her case, and several other lawyers also expressed their desire to assist.
