Alen Simonyan Receives Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Estonia Riina Kaljurand
On July 8, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia Riina Kaljurand. At the meeting the priorities of cooperation of the parliaments of the two countries and the continuity of cooperation within the framework of the parliamentary diplomacy were discussed.
“We always follow the activities of the Parliament of Estonia and emphasize any statement or any other manifestation on the sensitive issues for us,” the RA NA President noted. He touched upon the visit of the President of the Parliament of Estonia Jüri Ratas to Shushi on May 24 of this year, characterizing it extremely worrying.
According to Alen Simonyan, the statements made by Mr Ratas in the depopulated from Armenians Shushi, do not only reflect the breath of the friendly relations existing between our two countries, but they contradict the official support of Estonia in the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE PA Co-Chairmanship. The NA President informed the Ambassador that he sent a letter to the Speaker of the Estonian Parliament related to that, where he explained the essence of the conflict and the aftermath of 2020 disastrous war.

The RA NA President expressed hope that the Estonian colleague will visit Armenia in the near future and will get acquainted with the situation on the spot, also will meet the officials representing Nagorno Karabakh.
Thanking the NA President for the reception, the Ambassador of Estonia expressed hope that in the near future an opportunity will be given to discuss all the issues with the President of the Estonian Parliament. She conveyed the official invitation of the President of the Estonian Parliament to the NA President, in response to which, Alen Simonyan repeated his wish to see his Estonian colleague in Armenia and gladly accepted the mutual invitation.
