On 10 July, representatives of 5 Local Action Groups (LAGs) from the Lori and Tavush regions have come together in Dilijan to sign partnership agreements, exchange on rural development approaches, and showcase their local production. The LAGs composed of representatives of local authorities, local businesses, and local civil society are the cornerstone of the LEADER rural development methodology, which has been successfully applied in EU member states for the last three decades.
The LAGs will contribute to inclusive and sustainable growth and improved livelihoods of rural population in the Lori and Tavush regions through piloting of the LEADER / Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) approaches in the framework of EU-funded LEAD4Lori and Tavush regions project implemented by the United Nation’s Development Program in Armenia and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

“LEADER is a methodology for development in partnership, it has proven to be very effective by putting people at the centre of local development, bringing together local authorities, businesses, and civil society to strategize and drive local development. We support in Armenia piloting of the LEADER in Lori, Tavush, and Shirak regions and are keen to see this collaborative methodology succeeding in Armenia and becoming a useful institutional tool for local development”, mentioned Andrea Wiktorin, the EU Ambassador to Armenia in her address to the participants.
