At the press conference held on the occasion of the launch of the “Armenia:Exploring, preserving and enhancing heritage” project, one of the foreign journalists raised a question about the endangered monuments of Artsakh, and also wanted to know about France’s position. According to the Ambassador of France to Armenia, Anne Louyot, “France considers that it is necessary to deal with the issue of heritage in Artsakh and this topic is under the jurisdiction of UNESCO.
The president of our republic spoke about it during the last summit, which was organized online, and touched on the topic with Mr. Pashinyan and Mr. Aliyev in February. Let’s hope that our efforts will bear fruit and we will be able to help create the conditions for UNESCO’s mission to finally come true. We are working on it, but it, as I already mentioned, is under the jurisdiction of UNESCO.”
As early as 2020, French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted that France is ready to contribute its experience and provide full support to the protection of the cultural and religious heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh and its surroundings within the framework of UNESCO and the Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflicts. However, due to the Azerbaijani side, the implementation of UNESCO’s mission has not been successful.
