July 14,2022 21:01

On July 13, the opening of the renovated center of the RA National Assembly for the citizens was held.

“The reopening of the center was carried out with the joint efforts of our partners, the UNDP Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project. The project is funded by the Swedish and UK Governments. The renovated center of parliament will enable the latter to exercise their rights more effectively, to be involved in the work of the RA National Assembly,” the Chief of Staff, Secretary General of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Naribekyan noted.

“We predict that the new, comfortable conditions will contribute to a greater flow of citizens, as well as to the efficient work of the staff. Comfortable conditions, modern information technologies, simplified procedures and guidelines developed for the citizens will facilitate communication between the NA deputies and citizens. This is the first and essential step in the creation of the Visitor Center developed jointly with the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project within the framework of the concept of parliamentary democratic center,” the Chief of Staff noted.

Referring to the upcoming events, Vahan Naribekyan noted that the idea of creating an “Active Citizen” is at the core of them, which is also supported by the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project.

The purpose of the events is to increase the awareness of the RA citizens about the fundamental principles of parliamentary democracy and to contribute to inclusive and informed participatory processes.

The deputy of the Civil Contract Faction Hripsime Grigoryan, the Ambassador of Sweden to Armenia Patrik Svensson, the UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili, the representatives of the RA NA Staff and the UNDP Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project participated in the event.

According to him, thanks to this project, results have been achieved that indicate tools and mechanisms, focusing on the transparency of quality services.

“This is one of our many achievements, but it is of key importance because it further strengthens the representative function of parliament,” t he UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili noted. According to her, this renovated and modernized reception center for the citizens reflects and represents the concept and vision of the new Armenia – to be closer to the people. “We should cooperate and strengthen the efforts aimed at the expansion of public involvement by the RA NA,” Natia Natsvlishvili underlined.

The deputy of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Hripsime Grigoryan welcomed the guests and thanked them for participating in this important event on behalf of the President of the RA National Assembly. “I want to once again thank the Ambassadors and your teams for their personal involvement. It shows your attitude, and how much importance you attach to this project,” the deputy said.

It should be noted that the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project started in 2019. Its idea is to support the RA National Assembly and its Staff to strengthen their capacity within the framework of its new and significantly expanded role in the state governance system in order to perform key functions of drafting laws, control and ensuring representativeness.
