“Are the political prisoners of our country less white than the political prisoners of Belarus?” Hovhannes Ishkhanyan

July 20,2022 13:45

The members of the Resistance movement organized a protest in front of the UN Armenian office in defense of the illegally arrested citizens. A few days ago, producer Armen Grigoryan died during a session in the courtroom. Documentary director Hovhannes Ishkhanyan, showing the building of the UN representation, recalled that the UN protects human rights, prepares reports from time to time, and urges the release of political prisoners.

“For example, in March of this year, Belarus was urged to release political prisoners. They urge Iran to release political prisoners. But in Armenia, for 4 years already, the authorities have been creating fabricated cases, illegally throwing people into prisons, the fact that these cases are not proven, but these people do not exist for the UN, is the proof of this. What do we assume from this, that the political prisoners of our country, who are imprisoned illegally, are less white than the political prisoners of Belarus?” He mentioned that we already have 3 political prisoners who were deprived of their right to life during the reign of these authorities, but neither the UN nor other human rights organizations condemn them.

“The first was Mher Yeghiazaryan, then Manvel Grigoryan, who died in prison conditions, and Armen Grigoryan, who was detained for allegedly inciting inter-ethnic enmity. We know, don’t we, how they propagate systematic hatred towards the Armenians of Artsakh, we all know that they did not fight, ran away, etc… All this is done to tear Artsakh from Armenia, so that the citizens of Armenia reconcile, that Artsakh should be handed over. One thing follows from all these chains, that the UN is also part of the group that is trying to tear Artsakh from Armenia.

All our political prisoners are people who are devoted to Artsakh, or are participants in the Artsakh war, or are heroes, or are politicians who contributed to the liberation of Artsakh, or are intellectuals, for example, Armen Grigoryan, who passed away due to silence. And here a question arises: in that case, if our compatriots, who are dedicated to the protection of Armenians, do not receive support from those structures that are dedicated to the protection of human rights and democracy, then what is their business here? Why should people work in this structure to contribute to the violation of our security and rights?”
