A group of Armenian political society organizations submitted an alternative report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination regarding Azerbaijan’s violations of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. “We included the violations from 2016 to date in the report, which was presented to the committee by a group of organizations. While preparing the report, we also took into account the data of the fact-finding mission,” said Anna Melikyan, an expert on legal issues of the “Protection of Rights without Borders” NGO, during the discussion titled “Racial Discrimination by Azerbaijan” organized by the Media Center.
Levon Hayryan, the president of “Hanun Hadrut” NGO, said that the fight against Armenian hatred is not new. “There are two main factors here, the first is that Azerbaijanis, Turks and Tatars, who invaded Transcaucasia, had to get rid of the natives to make room for themselves. In other words, since the day they appeared here, those wars have gone. Armenians have always fought, fought for their freedom, but weakened over the centuries, they could not preserve their home. Newcomers have constantly come forward. It is a plan in the genes of Turks and Tatars that in order to live in this area, the native peoples must be eliminated.”
According to Levon Hayryan, the right to property is given by God, and no one can cancel it. “The only thing for them to have the opportunity to take possession of someone else’s property is that the owner should not be there. This is what dictated the Turks’ behavior both in Western Armenia and Transcaucasia. Our pain doubled after the Russians arrived here. The Russians, as ordinary colonists, constantly provoked their subordinate peoples against each other, fought, so that it would be easy to rule with the “divide and rule” policy. Thus, we had several things in the 20th century under the leadership of the Russians.

The most prominent were the Armenian-Tatar wars of 1905-07, where the Armenians managed to win at the cost of heavy losses. But the Russians did not like that victory, and they introduced Cossack punitive squads into Armenian villages and started beating and massacring people… In the same way, in 1918-20, the Russians created disputes in the Armenian-Azerbaijani domain, as well as in the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Tatar domains. In the end, on the advice of the Russians, with the decree of 1936, in order not to say that they are newcomers, the Transcaucasian Tatars suddenly became Azerbaijanis and presented themselves as natives, they also invented some Albanian theory, as if they were descendants of Albanians…
I presented all this to explain where the Turks get their obsession with erasing Armenians. Fearing that one day Armenians will have to make a demand to take ownership of their rights, home and proper property, they decided to take a different path.” “The war in 2020 proved once again that Azerbaijanis or Turks take possession of Armenian property, our holy places, only by slaughtering Armenians, committing genocide, driving them away, trying to usurp the holy places, to present them as Albanian,” said civil activist Artavazd Stepanyan.
